Second, the practice needs to build connections between facts, not treat each fact as an isolated item to be memorised. Patterns, relationships, and groupings are how number sense grows. A child who sees that 6 x 7 is just one more group of 6 than 5 x 7 is building flexible thinking. A child who treats 42 as a magic number they must remember in isolation is not.
Third, and this is critical for classroom adoption, the practice should be easy for teachers to implement without requiring significant prep time. Micro-practice only works if it actually happens every day. Anything too complex to set up consistently will not stick as a routine.
